Cloud & Backup
With the shift to multi-screen lifestyles and the increasing reliance on data at work or home, it’s never been more important to ensure your documents are well protected and always available. That’s why Synology continues developing better ways to synchronize and protect your data with powerful cloud and backup tools.
Cloud Station
Better performance, lighter burden
For power users and businesses, speed and optimized performance are crucial. Thanks to under the hood improvements, such as the smart polling feature, Cloud Station clients no longer send as many requests to the server when checking for updated files. This results in lower CPU usage, reduced network traffic, and smaller server overhead.
Customizable version control for each shared folder
A revamped database structure delivers faster response times and the ability to designate a maximum number of historical file versions for individual shared folders. Set a higher number of versions for shared folders containing important, commonly modified files to ensure integrity; or set a lower number for less important folders and save storage space.
See everything with the redesigned system tray
The familiar system tray has been beautifully redesigned to display more information and include handy options. See the status of current synchronization tasks, check out the recently updated history, and use simple controls to pause syncing or locate files.
Inspect your personal sync history
With detailed sync logs available on your desktop, it’s easy to keep track of which files have been synced with your computer and when. If you want to confirm a certain file has finished syncing, just open up the sync logs and locate the file using filters or advanced search.
Cloud Sync
Enjoy a safe and secure cloud
Cloud Sync makes it easy to synchronize files on your DiskStation with popular cloud storage services, such as Google Drive or Dropbox. The newest version boasts a greater number of supported cloud services, tools for secure data syncing, and more options to sync files according to your individual needs.
Sync whichever way you want
One-way sync lets you copy files from one place to another, without going the other way around. For example, you can back up files on your DiskStation to a cloud storage service like Google Drive, without syncing all the files in Google Drive to your DiskStation.
Encrypt data before uploading to public cloud services
The public cloud has become a popular tool for storing and backing up files, but there will always be related security concerns. Thankfully, Cloud Sync can now encrypt and compress your data before uploading it to a public cloud service. Take advantage of free storage space in the cloud, without sacrificing the security of your personal data.
Support for Amazon S3 and WebDAV cloud storage
Having more choices is always better, so Cloud Sync now supports more cloud services. In addition to the existing options (Google Drive, Dropbox, OneDrive, and more), you can now synchronize files on your Synology NAS with Amazon Web Services (AWS), S3 compatible providers, hicloud, SFR, as well as a score of WebDAV cloud storage providers.
Backup & Replication
Quickly browse and restore single files
The great thing about multi-version backup is having the ability to go back and restore files from a previous point in time, just in case you accidentally overwrite or delete an important document. This experience is now even better with the new file browsing feature, which lets you save time by finding and restoring only the files you need, without having to restore an entire folder.
Select the exact file you want and copy, restore, or download it.
Find the right backup version with the timeline.
Automatically rotate backups and conserve storage space
When performing scheduled data backups, the new rotation settings let you automatically delete older, unnecessary versions of backups, making version control a breeze. If a certain version is particularly important, you can lock it and prevent it from being automatically deleted.
Protect your data, intelligently and conveniently
Whenever transferred across a network, your data should be encrypted to prevent prying eyes from snooping on any sensitive information. The multi-version backup feature now supports 256-bit AES encryption for TLS, meaning you can secure your data and make sure it doesn’t fall into the wrong hands. When combined with a model including a built-in hardware encryption engine, there is no reason not to encrypt all of your backups.
